Why buy a Timber or Wooden Garage?

Constructed from sustainably sourced timber with precision and skill in the Chart workshop, our wooden garages are built to last. Hugely flexible, you can tailor a Chart wooden garage to your exact requirements, adding a side door, extra windows and as many parking bays as you need.

A timber garage from Chart sits above the kit and flat-pack market. Each building is designed and manufactured to order, giving you a wooden garage made to suit your home, your budget and your plot.

Single, Double Or Triple Garage?

A Chart wooden garage brings extra space to your home. Sustainable and constructed from timber, it adds valuable parking, storage or workshop space and may be covered under permitted development planning rights (please check local planning regulations).

You can choose from a single garage, double garage, triple garage or a larger, made-to-order garage from any of our ranges, which means we will have a customisable garage to fit your budget, shape and finish. Not sure what size garage you need? As garage experts, our in-house design team are ready to help plan your building and make changes to ensure you get the perfect shape and size of garage.

With decades of experience, Chart offer an unrivalled timber and wooden garage solution – designing, manufacturing, delivering and installing your garage, with a concrete base laid as part of the service, all under one roof. Have a look at our inspiration gallery to see what is possible, or for more in-depth knowledge read through some of our case studies about garage installations across the UK.

Start by using our online garage designer to tell us about your garaging requirements, and we can then tailor a personal quote for your garage. Working with our team, you can decide if you would like a full installation service or a DIY garage kit, make tweaks, and adjust sizes and finishes.

As each Chart garage is built to order, you can choose options such as a roof ready for clay or slate tiles, a doorway ready to receive an electric roller shutter, or an area especially set aside for your electric car charging point. We build using pressure treated timber for a long, low-maintenance life.

Our Wooden Garage Ranges

Our wooden garages are available in three ranges – Clipper, Chart and Chester – which feature slightly different specifications. The Clipper offers quality without complication and is exceptional value for money. The Chart range steps up the specification with heavier framing, guttering and a side door as standard. The Chester is our premium timber garage, with a higher eaves and ridge height, upgraded lightweight roof tiles, soffits and fascias, thicker exterior cladding and engineered roof trusses. If you need any help choosing, please get in touch with our team.

Wooden, Concrete Or Metal Garage?

A wooden garage offers a warmer, more natural appearance than a concrete sectional or metal garage, and it is far easier to tailor to the size, shape and finish of your home. Concrete and metal garages are typically supplied in fixed, standardised sizes, whereas every Chart wooden garage is designed and built to order, so you can match the cladding, roofing and proportions to your property. Built from sustainably sourced, pressure treated timber with thick framing and a high specification roof, a Chart wooden garage is made to last and, unlike many off-the-shelf buildings, can be finished to sit comfortably alongside a period or country home. For more on getting a solid, long-lasting building, see our step-by-step guide to wooden garage foundations.

Do You Need Planning Permission For A Wooden Garage?

A wooden garage may be covered under permitted development rights, but this depends on the size and siting of the building and on your local planning rules. We can provide base plans and elevation drawings to support an application where one is required – our guide to whether garages need planning consent explains the basics. Always check with your local planning department before you build.

Garage FAQs

How much does a wooden garage cost in the UK?

Every wooden garage is handcrafted to order, so the price depends on the range, size, number of bays and options you choose. Our wooden garages start from £3,490 + VAT. You can build your own specification online for a tailored quote, or speak to our design team.

Do you need planning permission for a wooden garage in the UK?

A wooden garage may be covered under permitted development rights, depending on its size and siting and on your local planning rules. We can supply base plans and elevation drawings to support a planning application where one is needed. Always check with your local planning department before you build.

What is the difference between the Clipper, Chart and Chester ranges?

The Clipper offers quality without complication and is our best value range. The Chart range adds heavier framing, guttering and a side door as standard. The Chester is our premium garage, with a higher eaves and ridge height, upgraded lightweight roof tiles, soffits and fascias, thicker cladding and engineered roof trusses.

Are wooden garages any good?

Built from sustainably sourced timber with thick framing and a high specification roof, our wooden garages are designed and manufactured to order to last for years. Unlike many off-the-shelf kits, each Chart garage is handcrafted to your requirements and installed by our own team.

Can I have an electric car charging point or roller shutter door fitted?

Yes. Because each garage is built to order, you can choose options such as a doorway prepared to receive an electric roller shutter, or an area set aside for an electric vehicle charging point. Talk to our design team about future-proofing your garage.

Do you deliver and install wooden garages nationwide?

Yes. We design, manufacture and install wooden garages nationwide, all under one roof. A footings service is also available in Kent. You can choose a full installation service or a DIY garage kit.

Is a wooden garage better than a concrete or metal one?

A wooden garage looks warmer and more natural than a concrete sectional or metal garage and is much easier to tailor to your home, since every Chart garage is built to order rather than supplied in fixed sizes. Made from pressure treated timber with thick framing and a high specification roof, it is built to last and can be finished to suit a period or country property.
