Explaining the Processes Involved

Thursday, 7 May 2015

If you are interesting in erecting a timber garage at your property, you should be aware that there is more involved in the purchase than just the cost of the garage itself. There are several elements to consider and it is good to be aware of what you can expect when you begin the process. With your eyes open, there will be no nasty surprises waiting for you.

To give you an idea of what costs/charges you will encounter, we’ve broken down some of the key elements that will likely be involved in the building process.

The Garage

The cost of the garage itself will of course be dependant on the specifics of your building – including the final dimensions and finishes. However, our standard timber garage prices range from as low as £1945 for a 12′ x 12′ Chart model to £14,795 for a 48′ x 24′ Chester model. We can, of course, also build you a custom design that we price on exact specification. In addition to the cost of the garage itself, there are various added extras and fittings you can add to the design, like a choice of differently priced roof finishes and door and window styles.

The amount you end up spending on your garage is dependant on your needs and budget – but we cater for a wide variety of requirements.

Planning Permission

Because your are planning to erect a large permanent structure on your property, you will need to apply for planning permission from your local authority. You might choose to handle this process yourself, but if you are unsure you can choose to seek professional advice. A good planning consultant will cost you between £400-£700 and this charge will likely include a pre application meeting, liaison with us, preparation of the supporting planning statement and preparation of the forms/applications.

Groundworks

Our timber garages require that a level, permanent concrete base be laid before erection. Whilst we can supply you with a detailed foundation drawing, we cannot carry out any groundworks ourselves. We recommend that you employ a local building contractor to carry out this work and quoted prices will vary depending on the dimension of the foundations, localization and site conditions. We also partner with certain trusted builders who can be on hand to provide a more accurate quote if needed. For a timber garage with a 12′ x 12′ dimension, however, you can expect to pay an estimate of around £6000 on suitable groundwork.

Delivery and Construction

With a Chart timber garage, delivery and construction is included under one price. If you live in the counties of Kent, Surrey or East Sussex, delivery and erection is included in the cost of the garage. For other counties, please download a brochure today (using the link at the top of the page) for a full breakdown of delivery charges by location. As a rule of thumb, however, the further you are from Kent (our home), the more you can expect to pay for delivery.
